Artist Statement

I'm an artist living in Hawaii and New York. I'm a multi-media artist that uses charcoal, pastel, watercolor, and ink. My specialty as a printmaker is engraving, which goes well with my woodworking. 3D printing and modeling are other interests of mine.

Through the eyes of a human or an animal, my art investigates spirituality both inside and outside of the body. I also recreate mental traumas that cause sadness and frustration.

The artists that most impact my work are Albrecht Durer, Gustave Dore, and Alphonse Mucha.

I'm completely absorbed in creating marks. Even though drawing a straight line is such a basic gesture, it has the power to communicate both aggressive and whimsical feelings and attitudes. Most of all I believe it is such a beautiful thing.

I was raised in Hawaii, so water is all around me. From the furious, crashing waves that lap the shore, to raindrop kisses that create brilliant rainbows, and to magnificent waterfalls. My thoughts are like waves, rising and falling till they collide into a sea foam wash. The wave formed because of a highly powerful force, such as gravity, an undercurrent, or wind. To the majority, it could appear unimportant, but if it touches even one person, that person is my wave. As a teacher, I want to make waves by build a name for myself in the emerging art community in addition to the art scene.
